!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!

This is the Emerald Harmony . Completed 2019 at the Nhà Máy óng Tàu 76 Shipyard near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It’s designed to serve on the Mekong River from Prek Kdam, Cambodia to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam with various stops along the way between the two countries. The vessel is 239ft (73m) long and can accommodate 84 passengers (maximum 2 per cabin) with 40 crew.

It may not have been built at Meyer Werft or Fincantieri but it seems like a very nice place to be when Covid is finally under control!

A little more about the vessel is on the website

A look the cabin layout and amenities with a quick interior video.

My dad remembers being amazed by how crazy beautiful Vietnam was and thinking what a great vacation spot it would be after the war, 50 years ago. One of the places I’d love to get to, someday, and a river cruise is great value for money.

There’s a bunch of spots in SE Asia I’d love to visit one day as well. My friend had some amazing photos from caves in Thailand.

I’ve always felt like the smaller ships offer a better experience to travel (and work on if I’m honest) , River cruises just aren’t as chaotic and put into places that don’t get overwhelmed by a few thousand passengers from mainlines each day . It’s more intimate and honest.

Some of them still operate on the traditional cruise line model, from before Carnival/NCL/RCI took over the industry with their modern mega ships - eg. just about everything you want is included in the ticket price (wine, beer, on board entertainment, shore excursions) and they don’t nickel and dime you to death and keep trying to sell you on stuff once you get on board. Plus, a high crew:passenger ratio for more attentive service.

In the meantime, Carnival has chosen to weather COVID-19 by selling off Holland America’s best ships for quick cash, leaving that brand further cheapened for whenever they do resume operations.
